- Embassy of Czech Republic and other Czech organizations will call news conference in Ministry of Foreign Affairs on measures and acts to be organized in frames of Mongolia-Czech diplomatic relations
- Examination and counting of automobiles will start
- News conference will be called in "MN" info-center on charity program for children with cancer
- Trade unions of medical organizations and hospitals will give report.

SERGELEN, Mongolia

After enduring a harsh winter last year that killed almost half of her 1,000 head of livestock, Baatariin Erdenechimeg moved halfway across Mongolia in search of a new start. But this winter has been no better - her family has lost a third of its remaining animals and may lose more before the warmer weather returns. "Our animals could not survive that kind of cold," said Erdenechimeg, a 42-year-old mother of two. "They collapsed in the snow and died overnight. Our remaining animals are just skin and bones." What's dzud you ask?

Well, it's the Mongolian word for the sort of weather they are now experiencing. Roughly translated by Shambala Sun, it's an unusually dry summer where there isn't enough grass growth to allow herd animals to grow strong, followed by an unusually cold winter (we're talking -55°F at times) with higher than normal snow. It causes huge numbers of cattle to die and brings misery and hardship to the families who herd them. Read more...

Mongolia, for the first time, is to join a global initiative to highlight climate change. The lights will go out in towns and cities around the world this month as part of the global initiative.

More than 1,100 cities and towns in some 100 countries from Mongolia to Madagascar, Nepal to New Zealand, will switch off their lights for an hour this Saturday (March 27) at 8.30pm (GMT) as part of the conservation group Worldwide Fund for Nature's (WWF) Earth Hour !!!  Read more...

As of March 12, some 1.2 million new born animals are surviving nationwide, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry reported  last week.  It is estimated that about 13.8 million breeding stock will produce young animals this spring. However, only 10.8 million breeding animals are expected to give the birth due to severe winter that influenced millions of breeding animals to have a miscarriage. Read more...
