To date, the total number of confirmed cases of human infection with influenza A (H7N9) virus in China is 14 including 6 deaths.
The Ministry has advised the population to maintain good personal hygiene, including frequent hand washing and avoiding direct contact with sick or dead animals, moreover if not necessary not to travel and postpone their visit to China.
However, no vaccine is currently available for this subtype of the influenza virus, but preliminary test results provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre in China suggest that the virus is susceptible to the neuraminidase inhibitors (oseltamivir and zanamivir).
Patients who have presented with this infection so far have developed severe pneumonia, according to the WHO. Associated side effects include fever, cough and shortness of breath.
